Home automation is sold on promises everywhere except at an exhibition, where it has to actually work in front of you. At HOMEX the smart-home companies build working rooms — press the switch, watch the curtains move, talk to the intercom, kill the lights from a phone — and then price the same setup for your own flat.

How much does it cost to make an apartment smart in Egypt?
It scales with how much you automate. Exhibitors price per room as well as whole-home, so you can start with lighting and curtains in the living room and add the rest later.
Does it work in an already-finished apartment, or do I need to be renovating?
Both are covered. Several systems at the show are wireless and retrofit into a finished flat without chasing walls — ask for the retrofit option specifically.
Can I see it working before I commit?
That is the reason to come. The smart-home stands are built as working rooms, so you operate the system yourself before anyone quotes you.
